At a race this weekend, they had ginger at the aid stations to settle upset stomachs. I tried it for the first time and it seemed to work pretty well. I didn't know if it was common knowledge, or a well kept secret.

| Pregnant women use it all the time for upset stomachs. Companies sell gum, real ginger soda, ginger candy, etc. |

Caramelized ginger (sold at whole foods by the bulk) is good while running if you're the kind that suffers from GI distress. Not really a secret, some triathletes are using it like Chrissie Wellington has for years. It also packs some energy from the sugar. I've tried it and it suits well, I still love the Honey Stinger gels and they don't upset me at all. |

Also, ginger is used as an anti-inflammatory tool for the recovery side.
And on sushi. |

Very interesting! I knew about taking a ginger tea with warm milk and sugar as a sleeping aid and I remember my mom taking it for upset stomach. I'm gonna try it for training along with my favorite gel: honey mix with water in a gel flask...good stuff! |
